How does Michael post daily content on his blog and web sites, if he still is in prison?

Michael writes his content in longhand and sends his work home by U.S. Mail to his wife, Carole. To produce the volume of pages he generates, Michael is up and writing before 2 a.m. every day. Carole coordinates the conversion of Michael’s writings to digital files and posts them on his blog or elsewhere online.

Do prison rules allow Michael to keep the revenues his writing generates?

Michael concerns himself with preparing for the challenges he will confront after completing more than a quarter-century in prison. He is committed to living as a law-abiding, contributing citizen and has become comfortably numb to the interferences wrought by confinement. He abides by all prison rules.

If Michael has a 45 year sentence, why does he expect release to come after 26 years of imprisonment?

Michael was sentenced under the law that was in place in 1987. It is commonly referred to as the old-law. According to that law, Michael receives more credit for not violating disciplinary rules than offenders who were convicted after the new law was enacted. That credit is known as good-time, even though it is not earned by merit.

How did Michael earn university degrees while serving a prison term?

When Michael began serving his prison term, in 1987, prisoners could still receive funding through Pell grants for university studies. Those funds enabled Michael to earn an undergraduate degree from Mercer University. Michael’s family paid the tuition expenses for him to earn a Master’s Degree from Hofstra University after the university agreed to waive Michael’s residency.
